Atlanta Allergy & Asthma News

Reminder: Effective 1/1/2024, Flovent HFA and Flovent Diskus, manufactured by Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), have been discontinued.

Updated on Thursday, January 11, 2024

Please be advised that as of January 1, 2024, Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) has discontinued the production of Flovent HFA and Flovent Diskus. As part of this process, GSK is making an “authorized generic” which is the exact same medicine with the same dosing but without the branding. Fluticasone propionate inhalation aerosol is the name of the authorized generic version of Flovent HFA (inhaler). Fluticasone propionate inhalation powder is the name of the authorized generic version of Flovent Diskus. Patients should check with their insurance company to determine if the replacements are covered under their plan. A list of other alternatives to Flovent that patients may inquire about include:

  • Alvesco HFA
  • ArmonAir Digihaler
  • Arnuity Ellipta
  • Asmanex HFA
  • Asmanex Twisthaler
  • Fluticasone Propionate Diskus Inhalation Powder
  • Fluticasone Propionate HFA
  • Pulmicort Flexhaler
  • Pulmicort Respules
  • QVAR Redihaler

Once the patient identifies an alternative medication covered under their insurance plan, please call your Atlanta Allergy & Asthma office so a new prescription can be provided.

It is important to continue your asthma or EoE treatment. If you are unable to identify an alternative medication, please contact your AA&A office for further assistance.
